Empathy Here
Caring for Edinburgh’s Carers Since 1989.
Behind everything we do at Care for Carers is a team of warm, compassionate people who genuinely understand what it means to care for someone you love. Many of us have been there ourselves. From your very first contact with us, we want you to feel heard, supported, and never alone.
About Us
Edinburgh’s First Carers Organisation — Est. 1989
Care for Carers were the city’s very first organisation established specifically to support unpaid carers. Since 1989, we’ve been proudly carer-led — meaning our trustees and management team are carers or former carers themselves. Kindness, compassion, and a genuine understanding of the caring role are at the heart of everything we do.
Shaped by Carers, for Carers
We believe the people who use our services should help shape them. That’s why we hold regular consultation events and actively involve carers in planning our programmes. It’s an approach that’s kept us responsive, creative, and relevant for over 35 years — and it’s why carers across Edinburgh continue to trust us.
Short Breaks & Unique Experiences
Over the decades, we’ve developed a specialist reputation for short breaks for carers — and we’re always looking for new and inspiring opportunities. For example partnerships with the Royal Astronomical Society and Cosmos Planetarium to offer astronomy and science-themed activities, including extended breaks to Dark Sky Sanctuary areas such as the Isles of Coll and Rum. We specialise in developing bespoke group based short breaks for carers. Our breaks provide fun, therapeutic, educational and varied activity opportunities. Breaks are supported throughout by our skilled and experienced staff team. These one-of-a-kind experiences give carers the chance to step away, recharge, and explore. The bespoke element of our short breaks programme is a trade marked service.
1-to-1 Support for Carers in Edinburgh
We are a delivery partner of the statutory Edinburgh City Council Carer Support Team, (NHS) covering the North East area of the city. Our friendly support workers offer flexible 1-to-1 meetings at home, in the community, or at our Edinburgh offices, as well as telephone support. This experienced team pro-actively support carers with practical and emotional support issues, providing guidance to navigate the caring journey.
